Interpersonal Communication (IPC)

Abstract

The verb "to communicate" means "to share" and "to put in common", which explains that communication is based on interaction and exchange, and when we talk about interaction or exchange we are referring to the relational aspect of communication.

Historically speaking, the definition of communication in the relational aspect started with the psycho-sociological models of communication.

According to these models, the act of communicating, does not only mean a linear process (which has only one direction) by which a sender codes a message and sends it to a receiver who receives it according to the decoding. But, it is an act that expresses a multidimensional situation, a complex process, a context where the objective is to create a relationship and keep the contact between communicators going.

In this sense, communication has become a purely human act, it expresses everything that is psychic, social and cultural in the interaction between individuals.

In this article, we will answer the following questions: What is interpersonal communication?  and What are the theories of IPC?
