Abstract

The self-esteem is defined as a psychic representation that every individual has of himself. The first years of life are important to build the base of the self-esteem, it develops gradually starting from positive or negative experiences.

The objective of this research is therefore to establish a link between self-esteem and school performance among Moroccan school children.  The research question is therefore: "Does self-esteem influence the academic performance of Moroccan school children? »

To answer the research question, we conducted an experiment at the ( Edakhla Elementary School, Benitadjite, Figuig Province) on a sample of 124 students who continue their studies in the second cycle of primary school (5th and 6th grade). Using the Coopermsith Self-Esteem Inventory (SEI) to assess their self-esteem levels (general, social, family and school) and comparing them to the first semester report cards (2017-2018 school year), we showed that there is an influential link between self-esteem and academic performance among school children.

Indeed, children who have a good school and family self-esteem are more successful than children who have low self-esteem in these two levels.
